Opening night:
‘An Homage to American Music’
Now available to watch!

The 17 September opening concert ‘An Homage to American Music’ was made available for international viewers through livestream.

‘An Homage to American Music’ was created in honor of Leiden 400, the anniversary year of the departure of the Mayflower from Leiden, with the pilgrims on board. Due to unforeseen circumstances, this concert was initially postponed but was eventually held on 17 September 2021.

This concert is ‘An Homage to American Music,’ which was first organised to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims leaving Leiden and sailing the Mayflower to America.  It is a tribute to American composers such as Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Duke Ellington. ‘An Homage to American Music’ was performed by The Peter Beets and Henk Meutgeert New Jazz Orchestra with conductor Henk Meutgeert and by The Practicum Musicae Orchestrae with conductor Aafko Boonstra. Both orchestras performed parts of Pjotr Iljitsj Tsjaikovski’s Nutcracker Suite, Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin and many more unforgettable pieces of music.

This livestream is brought to you by De Leidse Hofjesconcerten, which organizes yearly concerts in Leiden’s historic courtyards.
